Saskatoon Police Warn About Traffic Violation Text Scam

The Saskatoon Police Service is warning the public about a fraudulent text message scam that targets residents with false claims of unpaid traffic violations. The scam messages urge recipients to click a link to pay a fine or face legal consequences.

According to police, the texts appear to come from official sources and include threats of license suspension or arrest if payment is not made immediately. The messages often contain a link that leads to a fake payment portal designed to steal personal and financial information.

“These messages are not from the Saskatoon Police Service or any legitimate traffic enforcement agency,” said a police spokesperson. “Do not click on any links or provide any personal information.”

How to Protect Yourself

Police advise residents to delete the messages immediately and report them to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre. They also remind the public that legitimate traffic fines are never communicated via text message and that any official correspondence will come through registered mail or in-person delivery.

“If you receive a suspicious text, do not engage. Contact your local police service to verify,” the spokesperson added.

The Saskatoon Police Service is investigating the source of the scam and working with telecommunications providers to block the fraudulent numbers.
