Ford F-150 Recall Repairs May Be Incomplete, Automaker Warns

Ford Motor Company has issued an advisory that certain Ford F-150 pickup trucks involved in a prior recall may not have been properly repaired. The automaker is urging owners to verify or redo the service work to ensure vehicle safety.

Scope of the Issue

The advisory affects an unspecified number of 2020-2022 model year F-150 trucks that were recalled earlier for a potential issue with the rear axle hub bolt. Ford stated that some dealerships may have performed the repair incorrectly, leaving the bolt loose or improperly torqued. A loose bolt could lead to axle separation, increasing the risk of a crash.

According to Ford, the problem came to light after a small number of customers reported recurring symptoms post-repair. An internal investigation found that some technicians had not followed the correct service procedure. The company is now contacting affected owners via mail and urging them to schedule a free inspection at any Ford dealership.

What Owners Should Do

Ford recommends that owners of affected vehicles check their VIN on the company's recall website to see if their truck is included. If the repair was already performed, the dealership will re-inspect and, if necessary, redo the work at no cost. The automaker emphasized that no injuries or accidents have been reported related to this issue.

“We are committed to ensuring our customers’ safety and the quality of our repairs,” a Ford spokesperson said. “We apologize for any inconvenience and ask owners to bring their vehicles in for a complimentary check.”

Background on the Recall

The original recall, announced in March 2025, affected approximately 1.3 million F-150 trucks in North America due to a risk that the rear axle hub bolt could loosen over time. Ford had instructed dealers to replace the bolt and apply thread-locking compound. The new advisory suggests that some of those repairs may not have been completed to specification.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has been notified and is monitoring the situation. NHTSA spokesperson Lucia Sanchez said, “We take any indication of incomplete recall repairs seriously and will work with Ford to ensure all vehicles are properly fixed.”
