Ford Recalls 12,700+ Trucks Over Faulty Recall Repair

Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 12,700 trucks in the United States and Canada because a previous recall repair was not performed correctly, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall affects certain 2020-2022 Ford F-150 pickup trucks equipped with 3.5-liter EcoBoost engines.

Details of the Recall

The issue stems from a prior recall (NHTSA recall number 22V-123) aimed at fixing a potential engine oil leak. In that earlier campaign, dealers were instructed to replace the engine oil cooler and oil filter adapter assembly. However, Ford discovered that some repairs were done improperly, leaving the vehicles vulnerable to oil leaks that could lead to engine fires.

Ford said it is aware of one minor fire and two field reports related to the problem, but no injuries or crashes have been reported. The recall covers 12,724 vehicles in the U.S. and an additional 1,100 in Canada.

Dealers will inspect the previous repair and, if necessary, replace the oil cooler and adapter assembly free of charge. Ford will notify affected owners starting July 18, 2026. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332 or visit the NHTSA website for more information.

“Ford is committed to ensuring the safety and quality of its vehicles,” a company spokesperson said. “We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers.”
