Toronto-based armoured vehicle manufacturer INKAS announced plans to expand its production capacity, responding to increasing global demand for security vehicles. The company, which showcased its latest models at the Canadian Association of Defence and Security Industries annual trade show CANSEC in Ottawa on May 27, 2026, aims to boost output at its Toronto facility.
Expansion Details
INKAS did not disclose the exact investment amount or timeline for the expansion, but said the move will create new jobs and strengthen its supply chain. The company specializes in producing cash-in-transit vehicles, military-grade armoured personnel carriers, and luxury SUVs with ballistic protection.
“We are seeing strong demand from both government and commercial clients,” said an INKAS spokesperson. “This expansion will allow us to serve our customers better and reduce lead times.”
Industry Context
The expansion comes amid heightened global security concerns and increased defence spending by several nations. INKAS has secured contracts with law enforcement agencies, private security firms, and international governments. The company also exports vehicles to markets in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
At CANSEC 2026, INKAS displayed its Armoured SUV line, which offers B7-level ballistic protection, and the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) series, designed for military and peacekeeping operations. The trade show is Canada's premier defence industry event, drawing hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of attendees.
Economic Impact
The expansion is expected to bolster Ontario's manufacturing sector, which has faced challenges from global supply chain disruptions. INKAS stated that it will prioritize hiring local workers and sourcing materials from Canadian suppliers where possible.
“This is a vote of confidence in Toronto's manufacturing capabilities,” said a local economic development official. “INKAS's growth supports high-skilled jobs and reinforces our city's role in the global defence supply chain.”
