Kitchener Residents Charged in $172K Drug Bust in Northern Ont.

Two residents of Kitchener, Ont., have been charged following a drug bust in Sault Ste. Marie that netted approximately $172,000 in illicit substances, police announced Wednesday.

Details of the seizure

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service executed a search warrant on June 23 at a residence in the 100 block of Cathcart Street. During the search, officers seized a quantity of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, along with drug paraphernalia and cash. The street value of the drugs is estimated at $172,000.

Police also recovered a vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the offence.

Charges laid

Two individuals, both from Kitchener, were arrested and charged. A 34-year-old man faces charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine), possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000, and breach of a conditional sentence order. A 30-year-old woman is charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking (fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine) and possession of proceeds of crime over $5,000.

Both accused were held for bail hearings. Their names have not been released pending court appearances.

Ongoing investigation

Inspector Shawn Donovan of the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service said the bust was the result of a months-long investigation. “This seizure represents a significant disruption to the drug trade in our community,” Donovan said in a statement. “We will continue to work with our partners to hold those responsible accountable.”

The investigation is ongoing, and police say additional charges may be forthcoming.
