Modern Mattress Expands in Saskatoon with Second Location on 51st Street
Modern Mattress opens second Saskatoon store

Local retailer Modern Mattress is doubling down on its commitment to Saskatoon, opening a second showroom in the city to meet growing demand for its personalized, Canadian-made sleep solutions.

From Yorkton to Saskatoon: A Saskatchewan Success Story

The business, which first opened its doors in Yorkton eleven years ago, has steadily expanded across the province. After establishing locations in Moose Jaw and Regina, Modern Mattress entered the Saskatoon market in 2023. The successful reception led to the launch of a second Saskatoon outlet on 51st Street East in September 2025, marking the company's sixth store in Saskatchewan.

Owner Jon Piett, alongside store manager Yasmin Ipsita, is leading the expansion. Piett explains the company's founding mission was to transform a confusing retail experience. "We wanted to fix the buying experience," Piett stated. "It was very complicated. You would go into a big national chain, and they would try to fit you in on price or one-size-fits all. We decided to do the opposite."

A Personalized Approach to Sleep

The core philosophy of Modern Mattress is a consultative, problem-solving model. "Our goal right from the very beginning was always to make it simpler, listen to people and find the problem and then match them with the right sleep system," Piett emphasized.

This involves a complimentary sleep assessment that uses state-of-the-art technology to identify pressure points and individual sleep needs. All products are designed in Saskatchewan based on feedback from customers and staff, and built in Canada under the company's own brands.

Exclusive, Locally-Designed Product Lines

In a significant shift from its earlier days, Modern Mattress no longer carries major national mattress brands. For the past two years, the company has focused exclusively on its own designs.

"Our mattresses are actually now all designed by us and made in Canada," Piett confirmed. They are sold under the Lotus Sleep Products brand, which Piett started in Saskatoon, or the Modern Mattress brand itself.

A key product highlight is their line of adjustable bases, which Piett calls a "game changer" for solving sleep issues. "The adjustable base goes right underneath the mattress and it helps solve a lot of sleep problems," he said. The bases can be customized to alleviate conditions like snoring, sleep apnea, or lower back pain by adjusting the sleeper's position.

The opening of the second Saskatoon location underscores the success of this homegrown, customer-centric model, offering residents another avenue to find a sleep system tailored specifically to them.
