A Kentville, N.S., mechanic is expressing gratitude after an outpouring of donations followed a devastating garage fire. Wyatt Bond, the owner of the shop, said the support has been incredible.
Community rallies after fire destroys garage
The fire, which occurred earlier this week, destroyed Bond's garage and much of his equipment. Bond, who has been a mechanic in the community for years, was left without a workspace and facing significant financial loss.
In response, friends, family, and customers launched a fundraising effort. Within days, donations poured in from across the province. “Overwhelming support is incredible,” Bond said in an interview with CTV News Atlantic. He noted that the funds will go toward rebuilding the garage and replacing tools.

Firefighters responded to the blaze late Tuesday evening. The cause is under investigation, but early reports suggest it may have been accidental. No injuries were reported. Bond said he was alerted by a neighbor and arrived to find the structure engulfed.
The fundraising campaign, organized by a local community group, has already raised over $50,000 as of Thursday. Bond said he was amazed by the generosity. “I didn’t expect this. It’s really humbling,” he added.

Bond had been running the garage for nearly a decade, serving customers in the Annapolis Valley. The loss of his shop means he cannot work on vehicles, affecting his income. However, he plans to rebuild as soon as possible. “I’m not giving up. This community has given me too much to quit,” he stated.
