Metrolinx Probes Missing Window on GO Train After Viral Video

Metrolinx is investigating an incident after a video shared on social media over the weekend showed a missing window on a GO Transit train traveling to Toronto. The video, posted on Instagram on Sunday, April 26, 2026, shows a passenger filming what appears to be an emergency escape window resting on seats across from him, with two handles and its rubber seal visible.

Passenger Raises Safety Concerns

In the short clip, the passenger pans his camera to the missing window and says, "Just wondering how this is safe." He then extends his phone outside the moving train to demonstrate that the window was removed. Meanwhile, a fellow passenger and the conductor seemed unfazed; the conductor announced, "Once again, our next stop is Agincourt," as the train headed southbound.

Metrolinx Response

Metrolinx stated it is "currently looking into an act of vandalism on one of our trains" that occurred Sunday evening. A spokesperson said, "A customer alerted our staff at Union Station to the issue and the problem was addressed immediately after." The agency emphasized that GO trains are equipped with safety features for emergencies and that misusing them is a serious offense. Passengers can report safety concerns by pressing the yellow emergency strip or texting 'HELP' to 77777.

Emergency Exit Windows

According to Metrolinx's GO Train Emergency Evacuation Plan, each coach has 12 removable emergency exit windows. These glass panes can be physically removed from inside the train if doors cannot be opened during an emergency.

Viral Video Reaction

The video quickly went viral, garnering hundreds of comments and thousands of likes. Some viewers criticized the passenger for sticking his hand and phone out of a moving train, calling it unsafe. Others joked about the situation, with one commenter saying, "Need that during the rush hour sauna trains." Metrolinx continues to investigate the vandalism and reminds passengers to report any safety issues promptly.
