Three people are dead and another remains hospitalized after a serious multi-vehicle crash in Kawartha Lakes on Saturday evening. The collision involved a passenger vehicle and four motorcycles, according to Ontario Provincial Police.
The incident occurred at approximately 6 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 7 and New Heights Road in Omemee. Emergency crews, including Kawartha Lakes OPP and fire services, responded to reports of a severe collision.
Police identified the driver of the passenger vehicle as an 18-year-old man from Peterborough, who was pronounced dead at the scene. A 72-year-old motorcyclist from Dunchurch, Ontario, also died at the scene. A 65-year-old motorcyclist from Barrie was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre with serious injuries but later succumbed to his injuries. A third motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man from Sudbury, was taken to a local hospital before being transferred to a trauma centre. A fourth motorcyclist, a 36-year-old Sudbury man, was treated and released at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Authorities are appealing for anyone with information or dash-camera footage to contact the City of Kawartha Lakes OPP.
Separate Hit-and-Run Incident in Toronto
In an unrelated incident, Toronto Police are searching for a driver involved in a hit-and-run that left a 59-year-old man with serious injuries. The crash occurred shortly before midnight in the McCowan Road area, south of Ellesmere Road. Police stated that one vehicle appeared to go over a curb before colliding with another. The suspect driver fled the scene before officers arrived and remains outstanding.
