A tragic head-on collision between an SUV and a semi-truck in Westlock County has resulted in the death of a 36-year-old man, with the semi driver hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
Details of the Incident
Westlock RCMP responded to reports of a crash on Highway 44, just north of Highway 651, at approximately 11:10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21. The collision involved an SUV and a semi-truck, with both drivers being the sole occupants of their vehicles.
Victims and Response
The driver of the SUV, a 36-year-old man from Westlock County, was declared dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-truck, a 53-year-old man, was transported to a hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Multiple emergency services, including RCMP units, fire crews, and EMS, attended the scene. Traffic control was managed with assistance from La Prairie, and an Alberta RCMP collision analyst was called in to assist with the ongoing investigation.
