A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries in a crash in Dartmouth on Monday and was subsequently ticketed for driving without insurance, according to Halifax Regional Police.
The collision occurred in the afternoon at the intersection of Main Street and Caledonia Road. Police responded to reports of a crash involving a motorcycle and a passenger vehicle. The motorcyclist, whose identity has not been released, was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured.
Investigators determined that the motorcyclist was driving without insurance, a violation of Nova Scotia's Motor Vehicle Act. The rider was issued a summary offence ticket for operating a motor vehicle without insurance. The ticket carries a fine of at least $2,500 for a first offence.
Police are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. They are asking any witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them.
This incident highlights the dangers of uninsured driving. In Nova Scotia, all motor vehicle owners must have valid insurance. Driving without insurance can result in fines, licence suspension, and vehicle impoundment.
