Quebec's Auto Insurance Agency Revokes Certification for Dorval Driving School
The Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ) announced on Tuesday that it has officially revoked the certification for Steps Driving School located in Dorval. This decisive action follows verification that the school failed to meet the necessary eligibility requirements for Quebec's road safety education program.
Immediate Closure and Five-Year Ban
The SAAQ's determination that "this business could not continue operating as a recognized driving school" took effect on February 25. In addition to the certification revocation, the agency has imposed a significant restriction on the school's owners. For the next five years, they will be prohibited from owning or operating any other recognized driving school that offers road safety education programs in Quebec.
Steps Driving School, which was situated at 2101 Trans-Canada Highway near Sources Blvd., had previously been authorized to provide training for students seeking a Class 5 driver's licence. According to Quebec's business registry, the establishment was owned by Saleem Ghadban.
School's Response and Student Guidance
The school's website now displays a message confirming it has "permanently closed." The statement expresses gratitude to students and the community for their support over the years while directing all inquiries to the SAAQ. "We are deeply grateful for the trust and support of our students and community over the years. For any questions regarding your file, records, or refunds — the SAAQ is the only authority that can help you," the website states.
Broader Context of SAAQ Actions
This announcement comes just one day after the SAAQ permanently closed its Place Vertu service outlet following an investigation. The results of that probe have been forwarded to police authorities, indicating a period of heightened regulatory scrutiny by Quebec's auto insurance agency.
The SAAQ's actions against Steps Driving School represent a significant enforcement measure within Quebec's driver education system, emphasizing the agency's commitment to maintaining standards in road safety education across the province.
