Regina Key Hub for FlixBus Prairie Expansion

FlixBus, the German-headquartered low-cost intercity bus service, is expanding its presence in the Canadian Prairies, with Regina set to become a key hub for its network. The company announced new and enhanced routes that will link Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba, providing more travel options for residents and visitors.

Regina as a Central Connection Point

According to a company news release, Regina will serve as an important connection point within the FlixBus network, linking westbound and eastbound service across the prairies. The hub model is designed to expand travel possibilities for customers while improving access to destinations that historically have had fewer transportation choices.

New Routes and Stops

FlixBus has added a new route connecting Regina to Winnipeg, with a stop in Brandon. Additionally, the existing Regina-Calgary route will feature new stops in Moose Jaw, Swift Current, Medicine Hat, and Lethbridge. These additions bring the total number of FlixBus stops in Saskatchewan to 11.

The expanded service across three provinces is scheduled to launch on May 7, 2026. Regina will act as the central hub connecting Alberta and Manitoba, with three interconnected lines designed to create smoother regional travel and convenient transfers.

Background and Market Impact

FlixBus entered the Canadian market in 2022, initially offering connecting routes in Ottawa and Vancouver. Daily trips between Saskatchewan and Alberta began in July 2025. The new 2026 expansion comes five years after the closure of Crown corporation Saskatchewan Transport Company (STC), which left a gap in intercity bus service after the province shuttered the operation.

The company's growth in the Prairies underscores the demand for affordable and accessible long-distance bus travel, particularly in regions where transportation options have been limited.
