Plane Crash in Texas Claims Five Lives
A small aircraft crashed in Wimberley, Texas, on Thursday night, resulting in the deaths of all five individuals on board, according to a county official on Friday. The incident occurred in Wimberley, a city located approximately 40 miles (64 kilometers) southwest of Austin, as confirmed by Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra in a Facebook post.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the Cessna 421C crashed around 11:25 p.m. with five people aboard. The FAA, along with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), will conduct an investigation into the crash.
Becerra stated that preliminary information suggests the plane was traveling at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. He did not release the names of the victims, pending notification of their families. He also noted that a second aircraft traveling in the area landed safely near San Antonio.
Wimberley, which has a population of about 3,000, is a popular tourist and hiking destination in the Texas Hill Country, situated next to the Blanco River. Wimberley Mayor Jim Chiles told the Associated Press that he had no additional information about the crash.
