Cathy Billington, development director for the UCalgary Faculty of Arts, emphasized that the Sikh Studies program represents a community co-created initiative that has flourished through sustained partnership between the university and Calgary's Sikh community. "Thanks to the community support paired with matching funds from the University of Calgary, we've been able to establish six courses in Sikh Studies at the University of Calgary," Billington explained.
Tangible Program Achievements
The program has achieved remarkable milestones since receiving its first standalone gift in 2016, followed by a successful "Giving Day" in 2021. These contributions have directly supported the establishment of a four-year limited-term professorship dedicated to Sikh Studies, which has now been converted to a permanent faculty position due to overwhelming community support.

It would create a space to research, share, and elevate Sikh history and contributions while strengthening cultural understanding across communities."
