Collin Gosselin Challenges Mom Kate to Lie Detector Test Over Zip-Tie Abuse Claims
Collin Gosselin Challenges Mom to Lie Detector Test

Collin Gosselin, one of the eight children featured on TLC's 'Jon And Kate Plus 8,' has publicly challenged his mother, Kate Gosselin, to take a lie detector test to address his allegations that she zip-tied his hands and feet and locked him in a basement during his childhood.

In a YouTube interview posted Saturday with independent media personality Strange McNights, Collin Gosselin said, 'I would like to invite my mom to do a lie detector test. ... Mom, if you're listening to this, we would ask about the zip ties.' He added, 'For so long she's been putting on this facade to the media ... And for me, I have nothing to hide. I want to ask her these questions.'

It is important to note that lie detector tests, which measure a person's physiological responses to questions rather than the veracity of their statements, are not fully reliable and are generally inadmissible in court.

Allegations of Abuse

In 2024, Collin Gosselin told the Sun that when he was a child, his mother zip-tied his hands and feet together and locked him in a basement. 'My mother had a room built in our unfinished section of the storage basement,' he said. 'She had a room put up with cameras in it, a tiny window in the corner and it was bolt-locked from the outside.' He further claimed, 'When my mother would put me in that room multiple times, she had zip-tied my hands and feet together and bolt-locked the door, turned the lights off and had cameras there just watching me.'

HuffPost has reached out to Kate Gosselin's manager for comment on the allegations and the lie detector challenge.

Background and Family History

Collin Gosselin's interview on Saturday was an hourlong discussion about his upbringing and being raised by Kate and Jon Gosselin, who rose to fame after having twins and then sextuplets. The family's reality TV show documented the challenges of raising eight children and aired on TLC for 11 seasons from 2007 to 2017.

After years of interviews alleging abuse, Collin Gosselin announced on June 17 that his memoir, 'In the Shadow of Eight: Surviving the Reality of My Childhood,' will be released in October. In 2023, Kate Gosselin told People in a statement that Collin Gosselin had received 'multiple psychiatric diagnoses' due to his 'unpredictable and violent behavior.' Previously, she had said he had 'special needs' and was hospitalized at age 12.

Divorce and Subsequent Careers

Kate and Jon Gosselin divorced in 2009, but the show continued under the title 'Kate Plus 8.' Since the reality show ended in 2017, Kate Gosselin has participated in other TV ventures, including 'Dancing With the Stars,' 'Celebrity Apprentice,' and 'Special Forces: World's Toughest Test.' In late 2025, she joined TikTok, where she regularly posts updates about her rescue dogs and vlogs about her work as a nurse.

Collin Gosselin's book is set to be published on October 13.
