Mickey Rourke Issues Public Apology to Ex-Wife Carre Otis

Actor Mickey Rourke has publicly apologized to his ex-wife, Carre Otis, nearly three decades after their divorce. In a lengthy Instagram post, the 73-year-old star expressed regret over the end of their relationship, taking full responsibility for their tumultuous marriage.

Rourke shared a post featuring scenes from the 1989 film Wild Orchid, in which he co-starred with Otis. In the caption, he wrote: "Wrong (girl) not her fault all my mistake I was a fool (for) so many yrs not her fault at all I just made a blind terrible mistake big regret not of it her fault all my blame."

A Difficult Marriage

Rourke and Otis married in June 1992, and their divorce was finalized in December 1998. Otis, now 57, detailed the challenges of their relationship in her 2011 memoir, Beauty, Disrupted: A Memoir. She recounted a harrowing incident in which she was accidentally shot in the chest with a .357 bullet from a gun Rourke had placed in her bag without her knowledge. The bullet exited through her shoulder, narrowly missing her heart.

Otis also alleged that physical abuse began during a fight in 1992, describing their relationship as "abusive" in a 2011 interview with Huffington Post. She noted that both came from dysfunctional backgrounds and lacked the tools to handle their issues.

At the time, Rourke dismissed her memoir as "sour grapes" and "delusional" during an interview with Piers Morgan on CNN. However, his recent apology marks a significant shift in his stance.

Recent Developments

Earlier this year, Rourke faced eviction from his Los Angeles home due to unpaid rent, which he attributed to unacceptable living conditions. He currently resides in a hotel. Meanwhile, Otis is married to chemical engineer Matthew Sutton, with whom she shares two daughters.

Rourke continues to act, appearing in the 2026 crime thriller Bring the Law, with upcoming projects including A Walking Miracle and National Lampoon's Hollywood Hustle.
