A campground in Kananaskis Country is under a bear warning after a grizzly bear family ripped a tent from the ground, according to Alberta Parks officials.
Incident details
The incident occurred at the Mount Kidd RV Campground on June 25, 2026, when a grizzly bear and her cubs approached a tent, pulled it from its stakes, and dragged it a short distance. No campers were inside at the time, and no injuries were reported.
Alberta Parks issued a warning for the area, advising campers to secure food and garbage properly and to be vigilant. The bear family, identified as Grizzly Bear 142 and her cubs, is known to frequent the area.
Impact on campers
Campers in the region have been urged to follow safety protocols, including storing food in bear-proof containers and keeping a safe distance from wildlife. The campground remains open, but visitors are advised to exercise caution.
According to Alberta Parks, this is the first such incident this season, but similar encounters have occurred in previous years. Officials are monitoring the bears' movements.
