Postmedia Calgary photographers were busy across the city from June 19 to 21, 2026, capturing a weekend filled with sports, cultural celebrations, and family gatherings. From the unveiling of a new Field of Fame at WinSport to a CFL overtime thriller, National Indigenous Peoples Day events, and Father's Day activities, the weekend offered a diverse array of moments.

Alberta Champions Society and WinSport's Field of Fame

On Friday, June 19, family and friends gathered as the Alberta Champions Society and WinSport unveiled the eighth Field of Fame in the Calgary area. The permanent installation outside WinSport's newly reimagined Day Lodge recognizes the contributions of seven individuals: Gwen Davies, Dr. Dennis Kadatz, Frank King, the Honourable Norman (Normie) Kwong, Doug Mitchell, Bob Niven, and Joan Snyder. Each had an immense impact on the city and province with strong connections to the sports community. Lois Mitchell was seen looking over her late husband Doug Mitchell's monument during the ceremony.

All Sport One Day at WinSport

On Saturday, June 20, children took part in various sporting activities as part of All Sport One Day at WinSport and at other locations throughout Calgary. The event encouraged youth to try different sports and stay active.

Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre Anniversary and Expansion

Also on Saturday, the Osten & Victor Alberta Tennis Centre celebrated its 10-year anniversary with an open house and an expansion announcement. Ryan Straschnitzki, founder of the Straz Strong Foundation, gave a wheelchair tennis demonstration. Notable attendees included Colin Latchford, executive director of Tennis Alberta; Anita Comella, senior director of facilities development at Tennis Canada; Ward 11 Councillor Rob Ward; Al Fowler, chairman of the board; Ron Ghitter, founder; and Danny Da Costa, CEO.

Calgary Stampeders vs. Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saturday evening saw a thrilling CFL matchup at McMahon Stadium as the Calgary Stampeders hosted the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. battled the Roughriders defence, while wide receiver Dejon Brissett made a big catch. Linebacker Derrick Moncrief tackled running back Thomas Bertrand-Hudon and later stripped the ball from wide receiver Jaylen Johnson. Defensive lineman Shaun Peterson pressured quarterback Trevor Harris. Despite strong efforts, the Stampeders lost in overtime, leaving head coach Dave Dickenson irate over a call.

Walk for Reconciliation on National Indigenous Peoples Day

Sunday, June 21, marked National Indigenous Peoples Day, and the 17th annual Walk for Reconciliation took place. Starting from the Harry Hays Building and concluding at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland, attendees gathered for truth-telling, dancing, and a community meal.

The Gathering at Moh'kinsstis

Also on Sunday, the Gathering at Moh'kinsstis was held at containR Art Park and the Alexandra Centre in Inglewood to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day. The Bull Bear family performed, and a circle dance took place. Kids showed off their artwork during the event.

Wings and Wheels at the Hangar Flight Museum for Father's Day

Father's Day was celebrated at the Hangar Flight Museum's Wings and Wheels event. Dad Dustin Revdyn enjoyed the afternoon with his five kids. Oscar Mytoya and his son Thomas, 2, also attended. Kevin McKervey and his son Oliver, 3, checked out a 40mm anti-tank gun. John Senior brought his dog Molly to view the displays.
