President Donald Trump senior adviser Peter Navarro launched a blistering rant against Dr. Anthony Fauci on Fox Business Thursday, accusing him of creating the COVID-19 virus that killed millions. Appearing on “Mornings With Maria,” Navarro demanded Fauci be held accountable for his pandemic policies following the release of documents from former Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard that alleged Fauci covered up COVID-19 origins and spread misinformation.
Navarro's Accusations
“You idiot! You need to come clean, Fauci ... Quit hiding behind your money and your laurels and your PBS documentaries,” Navarro said. “Come clean! Because you killed people. All the kids that had to sit in their homes. My mom, I couldn’t see my mom where she was. She was holed up in her apartment getting food under the door. I mean, it’s like a prison.”
Navarro argued he is “surprised people aren’t suing Fauci civilly for all of the damages they did to their families and killing people and things like that,” declaring that Fauci “needs to be held accountable.”
Fauci Called 'Dr. Frankenstein'
“The guy’s sitting in a mansion with millions of dollars and a lot of people in the country think this guy’s a hero,” Navarro continued. “He created — he was the Dr. Frankenstein of the modern era.” Navarro alleged that Fauci “basically gave money to the Wuhan lab for the express purpose of using gain-of-function research to create a deadly virus for the purpose of then creating vaccines to kill the virus. How’d that go, Anthony?”
“And then when that thing leaked from the lab, he conducted a misinformation campaign, using some of the most prestigious academics in the world, to insist that it wasn’t from the lab, it was the zoonotic theory — from nature — and the biggest lie of omission was the fact that he funded the virus to begin with,” he added.
Lack of Evidence
There is no evidence that the virus was created in a lab, and Navarro’s claims that the virus is manmade were debunked by Factcheck.org. Fauci has denied allegations that he covered up the origins of COVID-19 and denied suppressing the theory that COVID-19 originated from a lab leak in China. CNN reported on Tuesday that Gabbard’s released internal documents don’t corroborate her claims about Fauci, citing an analysis mentioned in the files that the outlet says doesn’t prove that the pandemic was caused by a lab leak, among other inconsistencies.
Call for Decanonization
Calling Fauci the “true villain,” Navarro alleged that Fauci has “the blood of millions of people on his hands.” He argued that “American people need to decanonize ‘Saint Fauci,’” who he said “played God.” Elsewhere in the interview, Navarro scolded the media for what he called “canonizing Fauci” and having an “agenda” to blame President Donald Trump for the virus in an effort to “change the political landscape.”
