Calgary residents celebrating Canada Day may face a mix of sun and clouds with a risk of thunderstorms, according to Environment Canada. The forecast calls for a high of 23°C, but the unsettled conditions could bring sudden showers or storms throughout the day.
Weather Details
Environment Canada meteorologist Natalie Hasell said the region is under a weak low-pressure system that could trigger isolated thunderstorms. "It's not a washout, but people should be prepared for changing conditions," Hasell said. The chance of precipitation is 40%, with the best chance of storms in the afternoon and early evening.
Impact on Celebrations
Canada Day events in Calgary, including fireworks and concerts, are expected to proceed as planned, but organizers are monitoring the weather. The city has set up indoor alternatives for some activities in case of lightning. "We advise attendees to check the forecast and bring umbrellas or rain gear," said a city spokesperson.
Last year, Canada Day saw similar conditions, with a brief thunderstorm causing minor delays. This year, emergency services are on standby.
