Dramatic Rescue for Owl Found in Concrete Mixer

A remarkable wildlife rescue unfolded in Utah this November after an owl suffered an unfortunate accident, falling into a concrete mixer and becoming partially encased in the material. The bird was transported to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah for emergency care.

Critical Care and Recovery Process

Upon arrival at the sanctuary on November 6, 2025, the owl was examined by small animals manager Sierra Medlin. The dedicated team worked meticulously to clean the hardened concrete from the bird's feathers and body. This delicate process was crucial for the owl's survival, as the substance could have prevented it from flying, regulating its body temperature, and ultimately surviving in the wild.

A Second Chance at Flight

The owl is now in recovery under the watchful care of wildlife experts at the sanctuary. While the incident was traumatic, the bird's prognosis is positive. This rescue highlights the ongoing challenges wildlife faces in human-dominated landscapes and the vital role that rehabilitation centers play in giving animals a second chance. The team at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary continues to monitor the owl's progress, with the ultimate goal of releasing it back into its natural habitat once it has fully recuperated.
