More than 8 million Thermos food jars and bottles are being recalled after several people suffered permanent vision loss when using the products. An April 30 recall notice posted on the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) website states that consumers were struck by a stopper that forcefully ejected from these containers upon opening, including complaints of impact and laceration injuries requiring medical attention. Three consumers experienced permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.
Affected Products
The recalled items include the Thermos Stainless King 3000 and 3020 Food Jars and the Thermos Sportsman 3010 Food & Beverage Bottles. These were sold at various retailers, including Target, Amazon, and Walmart, between March 2008 and July 2024. The stoppers of the jars and bottles being recalled lack a pressure relief mechanism in the center.
Hazard Description
According to the CPSC, if perishable food or beverages are stored in the container for an extended period, the stopper can forcefully eject when opened, posing serious impact injury and laceration hazards to the consumer.

The products come in multiple colors and sizes, including 16 oz., 24 oz., and 40 oz. The recalled model numbers are SK3000, SK3020, and SK3010, which can be found displayed on the bottom of the containers.
