Cold Lake Daycare Gets Probationary Licence for Inadequate Supervision
Cold Lake Daycare Probationary Licence for Supervision

Happy House Daycare in Cold Lake has been placed on a probationary licence after failing to meet provincial standards for child supervision. The Alberta Education and Childcare ministry announced the decision on Friday, citing inadequate supervision at the facility located near 51 Avenue and 50 Street.

Probationary Period and Conditions

The probationary period begins May 7 and lasts until July 30. During this time, the daycare's capacity is limited to 98 spaces for up to six months. A safety plan has been implemented to ensure all children receive adequate supervision. The ministry will also work with families to determine if some children require alternative care arrangements.

Requirements for Compliance

As part of the probation, Happy House Daycare must review its supervision policies, ensure staff are appropriately trained, notify all parents of the probationary status, and demonstrate measurable improvement. The capacity restrictions will be lifted in phases only after compliance is verified.

If the daycare fails to return to compliance with provincial standards before the probationary period ends on July 30, its licence will not be reinstated.
