Fleet Brake Parts & Services Ltd. has been ordered to pay $138,000 after a worker was injured at an Edmonton service centre in January 2024. The fine includes the victim fine surcharge.
Incident Details
According to a news release from the province, the employee was struck by the hood of a vehicle at a heavy-duty truck parts service centre and fell into an open drop pit. The incident occurred in January 2024.
Court Proceedings
Fleet Brake Parts & Services Ltd. pleaded guilty on June 24 to failing to ensure a worker was protected from falling under the Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) code. The court imposed a $138,000 fine.
The Crown withdrew 13 other counts against Fleet Brake Parts & Services Ltd., as well as 14 counts against Parts for Trucks, Inc., related to the same incident.
Appeal and Enforcement
Both Fleet Brake Parts & Services Ltd. and the Crown have up to 30 days to appeal the conviction or penalty.
