North Vancouver RCMP have charged Iraj Mozaffari, a local volleyball coach, with 10 counts of sexual offences against minors on his team. The charges include three counts of sexual interference of a person under 16, two counts of touching a young person for a sexual purpose, and five counts of sexual assault.
Investigation launched after multiple reports
The investigation began on Dec. 22, 2024, when police received multiple reports alleging that children had been sexually assaulted while playing for a local volleyball team. The alleged offences occurred between January 2016 and December 2024.
RCMP conducted an extensive investigation involving interviews with several witnesses and players. A report was submitted to the B.C. Prosecution Service, which approved the charges on Thursday.
Police urge victims to come forward
Cpl. Mansoor Sahak thanked those who reported the incidents, stating, “Without their courage, we would not be in the position we are in today.” He encouraged anyone who may have been victimized to seek support from RCMP victim services, available 24/7 at 604-969-7540.
“For some, hearing about this may bring on memories of past trauma. If you are a victim, please reach out for support,” Sahak added.
Publication bans protect the identities of those who made the allegations. The case highlights ongoing efforts to address sexual abuse in youth sports.
