Windsor Hospital Launches 39th Annual Tree of Lights Fundraiser
Windsor Hospital's Tree of Lights Fundraiser Returns

Staff at a Windsor hospital fought back tears during a poignant ceremony this week, marking the emotional start of a beloved holiday fundraising tradition.

Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare officially launched its 39th annual Tree of Lights campaign with a tree-lighting event held on Tuesday, November 18, 2025. The gathering in the hospital's Ken Lewenza Sr. lobby saw individuals share heartfelt stories about friends, family, patients, and colleagues who have passed away, honouring each one by hanging a commemorative paper candle ornament on a Christmas tree.

A Campaign for Healing and Independence

The funds raised during this year's campaign are designated for the hospital's Outpatient Rehabilitation programs. These vital services are crucial for patients working to regain their strength, mobility, and independence after experiencing a significant illness or injury.

Bill Marra, the President and CEO of Hotel-Dieu Grace Healthcare, placed the final ornament of the ceremony in memory of his mother, Maria. She had received care through the hospital's geriatric outpatient services shortly before her passing in December 2024.

"Accessing those services was incredibly important, because she felt heard and respected," Marra shared with attendees. "Our family was provided comfort in knowing she was in such good hands when she was able to live at home." He added, "My faith tells me that my mother wants us to remember the great memories we have of people who have passed away. They want us to cherish them."

A New State-of-the-Art Facility

The fundraiser will directly benefit the hospital's new Toldo Outpatient Rehabilitation Centre. Sarah Picco, the Director of Rehabilitation and Restorative Care and Patient Transitions, highlighted the purpose-built nature of the facility on Prince Road.

"Every detail of this new facility has been designed with patients in mind," Picco stated. The centre features expanded treatment areas, private consultation rooms, and a specialized exercise space to better serve the community's rehabilitation needs.

She emphasized that the advanced new space was made possible through the generosity of donors, supporters, and community partners. The campaign provides the public with a direct opportunity to contribute to this cutting-edge local healthcare resource.

Community Spirit Shines

The launch event was filled with seasonal spirit, featuring musical performances from a Salvation Army Band and a young choir from St. Angela Catholic Elementary School. A large crowd gathered to participate in the touching ceremony and show their support.

The Tree of Lights campaign will continue to accept donations until December 31, 2025. Community members who wish to contribute to this cause and support local outpatient rehabilitation services can do so by visiting hdgh.org/treeoflights.
