Daryl Hall, the iconic voice behind Hall & Oates, announced on Instagram that he recently underwent a kidney transplant, calling it a complete success. The 79-year-old singer shared the news with fans, expressing gratitude to his living donor and optimism for a full recovery.
Transplant Announcement and Recovery
In a June 2026 Instagram post, Hall wrote: "I thought you should know that I recently received a kidney transplant from a very kind and generous living donor. It happened a couple of weeks ago, and I'm already starting to feel better. It was, according to my doctors, a complete success." He added that he expects to return to normal within a few months, teasing "more music and lots of Daryl's House shows." According to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, a living donation occurs when a person voluntarily donates one of their kidneys to someone in need. Hall did not disclose whether the donor was known to him or a stranger.
Previous Health Struggles with Lyme Disease
Hall has been open about his battle with Lyme disease, diagnosed in 2006, six years after he was infected, per the Bay Area Lyme Foundation. In a 2008 interview with the Portsmouth Herald, he described the illness: "I have good days and bad days. I was fine for four months then I might have tremors, headaches, fatigue. It's like a roving street gang of germs." He had to cancel concert dates after the diagnosis. Speaking to Fox News that same year, he emphasized the severity: "It's serious stuff. I don't think people really understand how debilitating it can be." He recalled suffering from mysterious ailments, including tremors, initially mistaken for the flu, and undergoing extensive antibiotic treatment. "I had six months where I couldn't much do anything," he said. "Somehow, through willpower, through good medical whatever, just luck, I got myself back together again."
Musical Legacy and Future Plans
Hall released his sixth solo album, D, in 2024. He made 18 studio albums with John Oates as Hall & Oates from 1972 to 2006, scoring six No. 1 hits including "Out of Touch," "Maneater," "Private Eyes," and "Rich Girl." Despite his health challenges, Hall remains committed to performing. "I should be back to normal in a few months, so get ready for more music and lots of Daryl's House shows," he assured fans.
