A 42-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with possession of child sexual abuse material following an investigation by the Saskatoon Police Service's Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) unit. The arrest occurred on April 22, 2026, after officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Avenue P South.
Police seized multiple electronic devices during the search, which will undergo forensic analysis. The man was released on conditions and is scheduled to appear in court on May 12, 2026.
Investigation Details
The investigation began after a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) was forwarded to the ICE unit. The tip indicated that an online user had uploaded suspected child sexual abuse material to a cloud storage service.
Detective Sergeant Jeff Lough said, "This case highlights the importance of collaboration between international agencies and local police in protecting children from online exploitation."
Charges and Legal Process
The accused faces one count of possession of child pornography under Section 163.1(4) of the Criminal Code. If convicted, the maximum penalty is 10 years imprisonment.
Police remind the public that sharing or possessing such material is a serious offense and encourage anyone with information about online exploitation to contact authorities.
Community Impact
The arrest has raised awareness about online child safety in Saskatoon. Local advocacy groups are urging parents to monitor their children's online activities and report suspicious behavior.
The Saskatoon Police Service continues to investigate and may lay additional charges as the forensic examination of the devices progresses.
