LAVAL – A serious multi-vehicle collision on a snow-covered highway in Laval has left nine people injured, including a nine-month-old infant, according to local police.
Chaotic Scene on Route 335
The incident unfolded at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Monday evening. Authorities report that a driver traveling northbound on Route 335 lost control of their vehicle roughly one kilometre north of Dagenais Boulevard.
This initial loss of control triggered a chain-reaction collision involving three other cars. The impact affected vehicles in both the northbound and southbound lanes, creating a chaotic scene for emergency responders.
Victims Range from Infant to Adult
The occupants of the four vehicles, nine individuals in total, sustained a range of injuries. Police confirmed the ages of those hurt spanned from just nine months old to 58 years.
While all victims received medical treatment, some injuries were described by investigators as serious. The condition of the infant was not immediately specified beyond their inclusion in the injured count.
Winter Weather Suspected as Key Factor
As of Tuesday morning, the collision remained under active investigation by the Laval police force. While the probe continues, early indications point to hazardous road conditions as a primary contributor.
Investigators stated that snow-covered roads may have played a significant role in the driver's initial loss of control. The accident serves as a stark reminder of the increased dangers posed by winter driving in Quebec.
The crash underscores the critical importance of adjusting speed, increasing following distance, and ensuring vehicles are properly equipped for winter conditions during snowfalls.
