The Edmonton Oilers have re-signed center Jason Dickinson to a five-year, $20 million contract, the team announced Monday. The deal carries an average annual value of $4 million and keeps the 29-year-old forward in Edmonton through the 2030-31 season.
Contract Details and Impact
Dickinson, acquired by the Oilers in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks in March 2025, quickly established himself as a reliable two-way presence. In 22 regular-season games with Edmonton following the trade, he recorded 4 goals and 6 assists while averaging over 16 minutes of ice time. His strong play continued into the playoffs, where he added 2 goals and 3 assists in 12 games.
“Jason is a versatile, hard-working player who fits our system perfectly,” said Oilers general manager Stan Bowman. “He can play in all situations and brings a physical edge that we value. We’re thrilled to have him locked in for the next five years.”
Dickinson’s Career and Role
Dickinson, a first-round pick (29th overall) of the Dallas Stars in 2015, has carved out a niche as a dependable bottom-six center capable of killing penalties and matching up against top opponents. Over his NHL career with the Stars, Blackhawks, and Oilers, he has accumulated 78 goals and 112 assists in 612 games.
“I’m excited to stay in Edmonton and continue building with this group,” Dickinson said. “The fans are incredible, and I believe we have a real chance to win a championship here.”
Oilers’ Offseason Moves
The signing is one of several moves the Oilers have made this offseason to bolster their roster around stars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl. Edmonton also re-signed defenseman Evan Bouchard to a three-year, $18 million deal and added veteran winger Tyler Toffoli via free agency.
With Dickinson locked in, the Oilers now have approximately $8 million in salary cap space remaining, according to CapFriendly. The team is expected to target additional depth on defense and in goal before the start of the 2026-27 season.
