Key Safety Recommendations
The OPP emphasizes the importance of wearing appropriate safety gear at all times. This includes a helmet that meets safety standards, protective clothing such as leather or reinforced jackets and pants, gloves, and sturdy boots. High-visibility vests are also recommended to ensure drivers can see motorcyclists more easily.
Riders are reminded to obey all traffic laws, including speed limits and lane usage. The OPP stresses that motorcycles are more vulnerable than cars, so defensive driving is crucial. Motorcyclists should always check blind spots, use turn signals, and maintain a safe following distance.
Weather and Road Conditions
Spring weather can be unpredictable, with rain, wind, and even frost creating hazardous conditions. The OPP advises riders to check forecasts before heading out and to avoid riding in severe weather. Roads may also have debris or gravel after winter, which can reduce traction.
