Alberta animal charities surprised by ‘Pawmobile’ donations

Several Alberta animal rescues were surprised with donations on Canada Day thanks to a Calgary utility company’s ‘Pawmobile’ initiative. Enmax, the city-owned electricity and natural gas provider, dispatched its branded vehicles to deliver $10,000 cheques to multiple animal welfare organizations across the province.

Surprise visits across Alberta

The Pawmobile made stops at shelters and rescue groups in Calgary, Edmonton, and several smaller communities. Recipients included the Calgary Humane Society, the Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS), and the Edmonton Humane Society. Each organization received the funds without prior notice, adding to the surprise and celebration of the national holiday.

“It was an incredible surprise,” said Jessica Bodley, communications manager at the Calgary Humane Society. “Our team was out in the yard with the animals when the Pawmobile rolled up. We had no idea it was coming, and the donation will make a huge difference for the pets in our care.”

Impact on animal welfare

The donations come at a critical time for animal rescues, which often face increased intake during summer months. The funds will be used for medical treatments, food, shelter improvements, and adoption programs. Enmax’s initiative aims to support organizations that rely heavily on community donations to operate.

“We wanted to do something special for Canada Day that directly helps animals and the people who care for them,” said Enmax spokesperson Carla Jones. “The Pawmobile is a fun way to deliver these gifts, but the real heroes are the staff and volunteers at these rescues who work tirelessly year-round.”

According to Enmax, the total donation amount across all recipients exceeded $100,000. The company has a history of community support but noted this was its first Canada Day-focused animal charity campaign. The Pawmobile will continue making stops throughout the summer at other charitable events.
