Georgia Police Rescue Kitten from Car Engine Using Drumstick

A Georgia police officer successfully rescued a tiny kitten trapped inside a car engine on the roadside by employing a drumstick to coax the feline from its hiding place. The Hall County Sheriff's Office released footage of the incident, which occurred in June 2026.

Officer Responds to Distressed Drivers

Officer Nick Jackson stopped to investigate two women standing by a car with the hood popped open at the side of the road. The women explained that they had two cats with them, but a third was stuck behind the car transmission. They said they were driving when they heard meowing, pulled over, and popped the hood. One cat was sitting on the engine, while another fell out from under the engine after the car stopped. They attempted to nudge the third cat out, but it hissed at them.

Drumstick Used as a Tool

Jackson then took a drumstick belonging to one of the women's boyfriends, who had left it in the car. He poked the drumstick down behind the transmission to lure the cat out. The cat initially resisted, but Jackson persisted until he could grab the kitten by the neck and lift it out of the engine.

“They’ve got strong necks. That’s how their moms pick them up,” Jackson said. He then asked the women if the cats were theirs. They replied that they were not and were unsure how the cats got there. Jackson checked the engine for more strays and found none.

Successful Rescue

“I’m glad you had that drumstick. That worked perfect. It distracts them,” Jackson added. The rescue highlights the resourcefulness of law enforcement in aiding animals in distress.
