Caesars Windsor Commits $30,000 to Enhance Food Bank Protein Supplies

In a significant charitable gesture, Caesars Windsor has donated $30,000 to the Windsor-Essex Food Bank Association, specifically aimed at acquiring hard-to-get protein options for individuals and families facing food insecurity. This contribution was announced on Thursday, February 26, 2026, as part of the Put Protein on the Table event, highlighting the growing need for nutritious support in the community.

Addressing a Critical Nutritional Gap

June Muir, CEO of UHC – Hub of Opportunities, emphasized the importance of this funding, stating, "Protein is often the first nutritious item to disappear from household budgets, yet it is critical to health and development. This donation helps address a growing nutritional gap." With the cost of living on the rise and meat prices increasing sharply, protein has become one of the most challenging items for families to afford and is frequently underrepresented in food bank donations.

The $30,000 donation will enable the purchase of approximately 5,000 one-pound packages of protein, which will be distributed across 15 food banks under the Windsor-Essex Food Bank Association. This network, coordinated by UHC, serves as a vital hub for food assistance throughout Essex County.

Rising Demand and Community Impact

Recent statistics underscore the escalating need for food bank services in the region. In 2025, the association recorded over 254,000 visits, marking a nine per cent increase from the 234,000 visits in 2024. UHC alone provides daily meals to about 300 people, reflecting the persistent challenges faced by many residents.

Jody Brown, senior vice-president and general manager at Caesars Windsor, commented on the initiative, saying, "Now more than ever, it is important to support our local food banks. With this donation, Caesars Windsor is proud to ensure resources are available to meet the increasing demand and help our neighbours in need." The donation was formally presented during a press conference at the Windsor facility, attended by key figures including Ali Bazzi, manager of UHC.

How to Contribute

For those interested in supporting this cause, donations can be made through the UHC – Hub of Opportunities website at uhc.ca. Contributors have the option to specify how they would like their funds to be used, allowing for targeted assistance in addressing food insecurity in the Windsor-Essex area.
