Details of the Incident
Police responded to a report of an unresponsive man on the roadside. Upon arrival, they found the victim with injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. RCMP have not released the victim's identity pending notification of next of kin.
“We are treating this as a vehicle-pedestrian collision, but the investigation is in its early stages,” said Corporal Jane Smith of the RCMP. “We are appealing to anyone who may have been in the area or has dashcam footage to come forward.”
Ongoing Investigation
Forensic collision reconstructionists are assisting with the investigation. No arrests have been made, and no charges have been filed. Police are working to determine the circumstances leading to the incident, including whether the driver involved remained at the scene.
The Carlyle area is a rural community with limited lighting on some roads, which may have been a factor. RCMP urge drivers and pedestrians to exercise caution, especially during early morning or evening hours.
Community Impact
Local residents have expressed shock and concern over the tragedy. Carlyle, with a population of about 1,600, is a close-knit community where such incidents are rare. The RCMP have set up a dedicated tip line for information.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Carlyle RCMP detachment or Crime Stoppers. The investigation continues as authorities await autopsy results to confirm the cause of death.
