Former President Joe Biden didn’t hold back from ripping “loser” President Donald Trump over his Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool and other controversial Washington renovation projects while delivering remarks Saturday night at a gala hosted by the Maryland Democratic Party.
“It’s not just his vanity projects,” Biden said. “He’s tearing down the East Wing of the White House, making room for his ballroom. Putting his name on the Kennedy Center. Building an arch in his own honor. Even hiring his own pool guy to fix his Reflecting Pool.” He added: “Whoa, what a loser.”
Trump’s Renovations Draw Backlash
Trump has faced backlash over his renovations of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool due to its ongoing algae bloom outbreak and peeling paint, among other issues. Additionally, the president has launched multiple extensive makeovers and renovations at the White House, including a multimillion-dollar expansion of the White House ballroom and a total redecoration of the Oval Office, subsequently sparking bipartisan criticism. Trump’s name was also briefly added to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., in December 2025, but it was later removed after a federal judge’s order.
Biden’s Broader Critique
Biden went on to say that Trump’s Reflecting Pool “reflects something even worse than the narcissism and incompetence at the core of this administration.”
“It’s the corruption, the brazen, blatant corruption. Corruption on a scale never seen before in American history in any administration,” he continued. “Trump has made billions of dollars since his return to the White House.” Calling Trump’s precarious actions “simply stunning,” he said Trump has no shame.
“And frankly, it’s embarrassing to the country. But Trump could care less,” Biden added. “Making money off the presidency is one of the reasons he wants to be president.”
Biden’s Low Profile and Health
Biden’s comments about Trump come after the ex-president has largely kept a low profile since exiting office, and later publicly revealing he was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer.
