Manitoba RCMP are seeking public assistance to locate James Maytwayashing, a 29-year-old man wanted in connection with a series of assaults in the communities of The Pas and Winnipegosis. Police describe the incidents as serious and urge anyone with information to come forward.

Details of the Assaults

According to RCMP, the assaults occurred over a span of several weeks in May and June 2026. The first incident took place on May 15 in The Pas, where Maytwayashing allegedly attacked a 34-year-old man, causing non-life-threatening injuries. A second assault was reported on June 2 in Winnipegosis, involving a 28-year-old woman who sustained minor injuries. The most recent incident occurred on June 18 in The Pas, where a 45-year-old man was seriously injured and required hospitalization.

Police have not disclosed the motive behind the attacks but confirm they are investigating them as isolated incidents. Maytwayashing is believed to be armed and dangerous, and authorities caution the public not to approach him.

Description of the Suspect

James Maytwayashing is described as Indigenous, approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall, weighing 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a 2005 blue Chevrolet Silverado with Manitoba license plate number GKL 582. RCMP believe he could be in the Winnipeg or The Pas areas.

“We are asking anyone who sees him or knows his whereabouts to contact police immediately,” said RCMP Corporal Julie Courchaine in a statement. “Do not approach him; he is considered dangerous.”

Public Appeal and Investigation

The RCMP have increased patrols in the affected communities and are working with local law enforcement to track Maytwayashing. They have released a photo of the suspect and urge residents to report any suspicious activity.
