Cargo Ship Attacked Near Strait of Hormuz Amid Iran War

A cargo ship traveling near the Strait of Hormuz reported being attacked by multiple small craft on Sunday, according to the British military's United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center. This incident is among at least two dozen attacks in the region since the Iran war began.

Details of the Attack

The UKMTO stated that the attack occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. UTC (7:30 a.m. ET) while the vessel was 11 nautical miles west of Sirik, Iran. All crew members were reported safe, and there was no environmental impact. The agency advised vessels to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity. No immediate claim of responsibility was made, and the threat level in the area remains critical.

Iran's Latest Proposal

Iran's state-linked media revealed details of Tehran's latest proposal to end the conflict, which includes a demand to resolve all issues within 30 days. The proposal, submitted through Pakistan, calls for the U.S. to lift sanctions, release Iran's frozen assets, end the naval blockade, withdraw forces from the region, and cease hostilities, including in Lebanon. It also demands reparations and a new governance mechanism for the Strait of Hormuz, which has been effectively closed due to dueling blockades.

Notably, the proposal does not address Iran's nuclear program or enriched uranium, which Tehran wishes to discuss at a later stage. U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Truth Social that he cannot imagine the proposal being acceptable, as Iran has not yet paid a sufficient price for its actions over the past 47 years.

International Reactions

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul expressed support for a negotiated solution after speaking with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. He emphasized that Germany and the U.S. share the goal of Iran renouncing nuclear weapons and releasing the Strait of Hormuz. This comes amid tensions between German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Trump, who recently announced the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 troops from Germany.

Israel Issues Evacuation Warnings in Lebanon

Israel's military issued new evacuation warnings for over 10 villages in southern Lebanon, despite a ceasefire with Hezbollah. The warnings include areas north of the Litani River, where Israeli troops are stationed. Lebanon's Health Ministry reported at least 2,679 deaths from Israeli strikes since March 2. Hezbollah launched several projectiles and drones that fell near Israeli positions.
