Ottawa police have charged the husband of a 64-year-old woman who has been missing since January 2026 with her murder. The woman, Olga Konokhova, was last in contact with someone in January, and her disappearance is considered suspicious and is under investigation by the homicide unit.
Charges laid in suspicious disappearance
According to a statement from the Ottawa Police Service, the husband was arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Police have not released his name. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
Konokhova was reported missing by family members after they were unable to reach her. Police classified her disappearance as suspicious due to the circumstances. Homicide detectives took over the case in early February.
Details from the investigation
Police have not disclosed the cause of death or the location where Konokhova's body was found. They said the charges follow a thorough investigation involving forensic evidence and witness interviews. The accused is scheduled to appear in court later this week.
“This is a tragic outcome for a family that has been searching for answers for months,” said Detective Sergeant Jeff Leiper of the Ottawa Police Homicide Unit. “Our thoughts are with Olga’s loved ones during this difficult time.”
Community reaction and ongoing probe
Neighbors described Konokhova as a quiet, friendly woman who kept to herself. The case has shaken the community, with many expressing shock that a missing person investigation turned into a homicide.
Police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information about Konokhova’s movements in January 2026 to contact the Ottawa Police Homicide Unit or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
