Iran Attacks Kuwait: One Dead, Airport Damaged
One person was killed and several others were injured after Iranian drones and missiles struck Kuwait early Wednesday, according to Kuwait's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The attacks targeted civilian and vital facilities, including Kuwait International Airport, causing damage to diplomatic missions.
The U.S. military responded by launching self-defense strikes on Iran overnight, shooting down ballistic missiles and drones fired at ships and Gulf countries. U.S. Central Command reported that Iran fired two missiles at Kuwait and three at Bahrain, all of which were intercepted or broke apart.
Conflict Escalates on 97th Day
The war on Iran has now entered its 97th day. In related developments, Israeli strikes near Tyre in southern Lebanon killed six people, according to Lebanon's state-run news agency. The Israeli military has intensified attacks on Hezbollah positions in the area.
U.S. President Donald Trump revealed in an interview that he had a tense exchange with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over Lebanon, stating he was "a little bit perturbed" at Netanyahu's continued fighting with Lebanon. Trump emphasized their working relationship, calling himself a "wartime president" and Netanyahu a "wartime prime minister."
US Self-Defense Strikes
U.S. Central Command confirmed launching strikes on Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as self-defense actions in response to Iranian attacks across the Middle East. Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed responsibility for attacking American bases and helicopters in a regional country using missiles and drones as retaliation.
Iran's foreign ministry warned that disrupting the security of the Strait of Hormuz would carry a heavy price for the U.S. military. It also stated that leaders of Kuwait and Bahrain had "direct and unmistakable responsibility" for the acts of aggression and condemned U.S. strikes.
Regional Impact
Kuwait's General Authority of Civil Aviation announced that Kuwait Airways flights would resume operations from the airport on Wednesday. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs denounced Iran's attacks, stating they caused increased escalation and heightened tension, undermining regional security and stability.
