A 39-year-old man from Richmond Hill has been charged after a vehicle struck two cars during an Iran conflict protest on Sunday. The incident took place in the area of Major Mackenzie Drive and Yonge Street.

Details of the incident

York Regional Police responded to reports of a dangerous driver at around 3:15 p.m. According to authorities, the suspect was operating a motor vehicle dangerously near an ongoing demonstration. The driver struck a food delivery worker who was not part of the protest. While fleeing the scene, the suspect hit another vehicle.

Police allege that the suspect then stopped his car to shout threats at the demonstrators before being taken into custody.

Victim and charges

The victim, who sustained minor injuries, was taken to hospital and treated. Mehran Mohagheghi faces charges including assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a vehicle, uttering threats, and failure to stop after an accident.

The investigation is ongoing. Police are urging any witnesses who have not yet spoken to investigators to come forward. They are also seeking video footage from dashcams, cellphones, or home security cameras recorded in the area around the time of the incident.
