A 31-year-old man has been charged in connection with a daytime stabbing near Main Street Station in Toronto's east end, police announced Wednesday.

Incident details

The stabbing occurred on June 28, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m. near the TTC station at 320 Main Street. Police responded to reports of an assault and found a victim with stab wounds. The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, according to paramedics.

Toronto Police Service officers arrested a suspect at the scene shortly after the incident. The accused, identified as James Carter of Toronto, faces charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police statement

"This was a targeted incident, and there is no ongoing threat to public safety," said Constable David Hopkinson in a press release. "We are still investigating the motive and ask anyone with information to come forward."

The accused appeared in court on June 29 and was remanded into custody pending a bail hearing. The investigation remains ongoing.
