A man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Etobicoke on Tuesday evening, Toronto police report.
Incident details
Police were called to the area of Kipling Avenue and Dixon Road at around 6:30 p.m. for reports of gunfire. Officers arrived to find a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was rushed to a trauma centre in critical condition.
The shooting occurred in a residential and commercial area, prompting a large police response. The suspect fled the scene and remains at large. No description has been released.
Investigation ongoing
Homicide detectives have taken over the investigation. Police are reviewing surveillance footage and appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
This is the latest shooting in Toronto this year, which has seen a rise in gun violence. According to police data, shootings are up 12% compared to the same period last year.
