The St. Louis Blues have sent forward Jordan Kyrou to the Washington Capitals in exchange for forward Connor McMichael, prospect Milton Gastrin, and the 16th overall pick in the 2026 NHL draft.
Trade Details
Kyrou, 28, scored 18 goals and recorded 46 points in 72 games for St. Louis last season. The big centre is entering the fourth season of an eight-year, $65 million contract with an annual cap hit of $8.125 million. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2030-31 season.
Kyrou was selected for the 2022 NHL All-Star Game and had 27 goals and a career-best 75 points that season. Drafted 36th overall by St. Louis in 2016, he has scored 168 goals and recorded 378 points over 488 career games.
Capitals General Manager Comments
“We are thrilled to acquire Jordan and welcome him to our team,” Capitals general manager Chris Patrick said in a statement. “Jordan is an exceptionally talented and dynamic offensive player who will make an immediate impact on our club. His skill, creativity and ability to generate offence at an elite level will be a tremendous addition to our group.”
What the Blues Get
The 25-year-old McMichael scored 14 goals and had 46 points in 78 games with Washington last season. The winger became a top-six forward for the Capitals starting in 2024-25 with 26 goals and 57 points in 82 games. He is coming off a two-year, $4.2 million contract with a cap hit of $2.1 million and is a restricted free agent. Drafted 25th overall by Washington in 2019, McMichael has 67 goals and 154 points over 315 career games.
The Capitals drafted Gastrin as the 37th overall pick in 2025. He played for MoDo last season in Sweden’s second-tier professional league, scoring 10 goals and 24 points in 39 games.
