Calgary police have charged six teenagers in connection with a violent attack on a 17-year-old who was bear sprayed and stabbed in an alley in the Auburn Bay neighborhood. The victim suffered life-threatening injuries but has since been released from hospital.
Charges Laid Against Six Youths
According to police, the incident occurred on May 7, 2026, in the 100 block of Auburn Meadows Way S.E. Officers responded to a report of a teen in medical distress and found the 17-year-old with stab wounds. He was transported to hospital in critical condition.
Two youths were arrested shortly after the attack, and CCTV footage led to the identification and arrest of four more suspects. The accused include two 15-year-olds and two 14-year-olds, all facing multiple charges.
Details of the Attack
Police said the victim was confronted by the six younger teens in an alley. A fight broke out, during which bear spray was used before the victim was stabbed. All six adolescents are each charged with one count of aggravated assault, one count of assault with a weapon, and one count of disguise with intent.
Under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, none of the accused can be named. They are scheduled to appear in youth court on July 21.
Police and Community Response
District 8 Insp. Darry Midtdal expressed concern over the violence. “Violence of this nature involving youth is deeply concerning,” he said. “We are grateful to the witnesses and community members who came forward with information. Their assistance was instrumental in helping us identify and charge the teens involved in this senseless attack.”
The Calgary Herald reported that the attack has shocked the Auburn Bay community, which is typically quiet. Police continue to investigate and urge anyone with additional information to come forward.
