Toronto police offer $25K reward for serial robbery suspect

Toronto police have announced an enhanced cash reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of Kyle Douglas Prouse, a man suspected in a series of robberies across Ontario and Quebec. The announcement came on April 27, 2026, as investigators revealed that Prouse is linked to at least six heists, including a jewelry store robbery at Fairview Mall that left a security officer seriously injured.

Details of the Fairview Mall Incident

On the morning of April 21, Toronto police responded to a shooting at Fairview Mall, located at Don Mills Road and Sheppard Avenue East. A male suspect entered a jewelry store, stole merchandise, and shot a security guard who confronted him. The guard was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. The suspect fled in a white van, which was later recovered a few blocks away, and then switched to a black Honda Accord.

Suspect Identification and History

The suspect was identified as Kyle Douglas Prouse, a 53-year-old white male from Montreal. He was described as wearing a grey hoodie, grey pants, a blue baseball cap, a white medical mask, and black shoes. Prouse was already wanted in connection with a break-and-enter investigation in Durham Region from August 2023. However, Inspector Kristy Smith of the Toronto police hold-up squad stated that Prouse is also wanted for a string of robberies and break-ins at banks and jewelry stores across Ontario and Quebec dating back to 2023.

Police Appeal for Public Help

During a press conference, Inspector Smith expressed concern about Prouse's escalating and dangerous behavior. “This is an individual who has demonstrated a pattern of escalating and dangerous behaviour,” she said. “We are concerned about the risk he poses to public safety, and we are asking for the public’s help to locate him.” She urged anyone who sees Prouse not to approach him but to call 911 immediately. Even small pieces of information should be reported to Toronto police or Crime Stoppers anonymously.

Enhanced Reward and Time Limit

Sean Sportun, chair of Toronto Crime Stoppers, announced the enhanced cash reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to Prouse's arrest. The reward is time-sensitive and will remain in effect until June 30, 2026. “So if you have information, now is the time to come forward,” said Sportun. He also addressed Prouse directly: “And to Mr. Prouse, if you are listening, my message to you is direct. With today’s announcement, your world just got smaller. Do the right thing, contact a lawyer, and turn yourself in.”

Evidence and Public Safety

Police released video footage showing the suspect in each robbery, often carrying what appeared to be a handgun. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward to help ensure public safety.
