Trump Cancels Housing Bill Signing; Warren Blasts 'Indifference'
Trump Cancels Housing Bill Signing, Warren Blasts Indifference

President Donald Trump abruptly canceled a news conference and bill signing Wednesday morning that aimed to reduce housing costs, drawing sharp criticism from Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.), who expressed bewilderment and frustration.

“I’m sorry, if you’re asking me to get into Donald Trump’s head and figure out what’s going on there, you need somebody else,” Warren told CNBC after Trump backed out minutes before the scheduled event. “I just … I don’t have any idea.”

Bipartisan Bill Passed Overwhelmingly

The legislation, which would streamline construction processes and limit corporate landlords, was co-sponsored by Warren and Sen. Tim Scott (R-S.C.). It passed the Senate with an 85-5 vote and cleared the House 358-32, reflecting broad bipartisan support.

Warren argued that Trump’s cancellation was another data point showing his lack of concern for American families. “This just doesn’t make any sense other than whatever it is he wants to do is complete indifference to the cost squeeze on American families and to genuine efforts to do something about it,” she said.

Trump's 'Victory Lap' Refused

“He could be over here trying to claim the victory lap, and instead he’s saying, ‘No, no,’” Warren continued. “He doesn’t want anything to do with it.” She added, “It’s because he really doesn’t care about American families and doesn’t care about the fact that prices are up and the promises he made to lower costs on Day 1 have not only come to nothing — prices are higher on groceries, prices are higher on healthcare, prices are higher on virtually everything that Americans buy — because of Donald Trump’s policies.”

Trump's Inflation Comments Under Fire

Earlier this month, Trump sparked controversy when asked about a poor inflation report. He responded, “I love the inflation,” interrupting a reporter before they could cite the data. “No, I love it. The numbers were great,” Trump said, despite the report showing rising prices. The president’s remarks have been widely criticized as out of touch with the economic challenges facing Americans.
