Windsor police report that a man was lured to a meeting with a woman, where he was ambushed, beaten with a baseball bat, and then struck by a vehicle as the attackers fled. The incident occurred in an alleyway in the 100 block of Marion Avenue.
Details of the Assault
Police responded shortly after 7 a.m. on Monday to a report of an assault. Officers found a 44-year-old man suffering from life-threatening injuries. According to investigators, the victim had arranged to meet a 34-year-old woman at a residential garage. Shortly after she arrived, two men, aged 31 and 39, allegedly forced their way into the garage and repeatedly struck the victim with a baseball bat.
A neighbor witnessed the attack and chased one of the suspects. The remaining male suspect and the female suspect drove off in a vehicle. During their escape, the female suspect struck the neighbor with the vehicle before fleeing the area. The neighbor sustained minor injuries.
Investigation and Arrests
The Windsor Police Service Major Crimes Unit launched an investigation and identified three suspects. On Tuesday, members of the Repeat Offender Parole Enforcement (ROPE) unit arrested the 34-year-old woman and the 39-year-old man in a parking lot in Strathroy. The woman faces charges of aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and failure to stop after an accident. The 39-year-old man is charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, and failure to comply with a release order.
The following day, the 31-year-old man turned himself in at police headquarters in downtown Windsor. He is charged with aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
