Police in Belize are conducting a thorough investigation into the mysterious death of an elderly Canadian man discovered deceased on his boat off the coast of the Central American nation. Victim Identified as 72-Year-Old Vancouver Man
Officials have identified the deceased as 72-year-old Thomas David Harman from Vancouver, British Columbia. According to police reports, Harman's catamaran was found adrift in Belizean waters with his body on board. The circumstances surrounding his death have prompted a comprehensive police inquiry.
Conflicting Accounts and Suspicious Circumstances
Initial reports from a woman described as Harman's companion suggested the Canadian sailor fell while attempting to repair a sail during their journey from Honduras to the Cayman Islands, subsequently suffering a fatal heart attack. However, Belize police have expressed skepticism about this account and are not classifying the incident as a simple accident or death by misadventure.
"The police believe that foul play was involved based on the evidence that was found on the scene," stated police officer Stacy Smith during a media briefing. "It is an ongoing investigation. We are awaiting the results of the postmortem to make a determination in that regard."

"There are apparent wounds on the body of the father and the female was in distress and boarded the cruise ship," Usher explained. "So, just to have further details onto what exactly happened, I think further investigation is necessary."

Harman's son has traveled to Belize to assist with the investigation and informed detectives that his father had "left with a woman" approximately one week earlier from Livingston, Guatemala. The case has drawn particular attention given Belize's history with violent crimes against Canadian citizens.
Several Canadians have been murdered in Belize over the past decade, most notably Francesca Matus, a 52-year-old mother of two from Keswick, Ontario, and her American boyfriend Drew DeVoursney, who were discovered strangled in a sugar cane field in 2017.
